“Providing e-learning templates limited only by one’s imagination!”

Live Video

Live video is still another form of technology that can energize an e-learning tutorial. Truly, the skills needed to actively engage in the 21 st century cover a wide spectrum. They are no longer restricted to matters of the mind. A unified vision balancing education of the heart and mind is more accurate.

Goals of learning in the 21 st Century:

  • Personal and social responsibility
  • Planning, critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity
  • Strong communication skills, both for interpersonal and presentation needs
  • Cross-cultural understanding
  • Visualizing and decision-making
  • Knowing how and when to use technology and choosing the most appropriate tool for the task

One of the most comprehensive ways to cover these skills is through a real life situation, particularly if the learner can be involved in the process. Learners make connections and are much more likely to retain what they learn rather than forget it as soon as they disgorge it for a test. Live videos can illustrate team building skills, communication skills and management of emotional skills, all of which are needed just as much as other intellectual capacities.

Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills are illustrated in this live video demonstration from our Peace Learning Center Demo project. Interpersonal skills become polished through interaction with other people whether it occurs via discussions, cooperative work or social activities. Strong interpersonal skills can create a synergy among the group as each person honors the feelings and motives of the others. Intrapersonal skills involve being mindful of oneself. Practices such as getting in touch with your own feelings and self motivation are valuable life tools. This video comes at the end of an exercise that deals with utilizing active listening and rephrasing techniques to solve a personal conflict between two people. The video is stopped at one point to give the learner an opportunity to test their knowledge. This type of interactivity could be expanded upon to fulfill the needs of the individual e-learning project.
